Around 70 of the earths surface is covered by ocean.

ontain enough water to fill a cube with edges over 1000 kilometers (621 miles) in length.

  2. Ocean tides are caused by the Earth's rotating while the moon and suns gravitational pull acts on ocean water.

  3. The Pacific Ocean name has an original meaning ofgf peaceful sea.

1.For starters, did you know that 94 percent of life on earth is aquatic? That makes us land-dwelers a very small minority.

Although the marine biomass is primarily made up of the oceans, it can be divided up into three types:
  • Oceans - These are the five major oceans that cover the world including the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern Oceans.
    • Coral reefs - Coral reefs are small in size when compared to the oceans, but around 25% of marine species live in the coral reefs making them an important biomass. Go here to learn more about the coral reef bio(;HTTP//WWW.dumpsters.com/science/ecosystems/cor...bio me.pep

World Ocean

* v

An ocean (from Ancient Greek Ὠκεανὸς (Okeanos); the World Ocean of classical antiquity[1]) is a body of saline water that composes much of a planet'shydrosphere.[2] On Earth, an ocean is one or all of the major divisions of the planet's World Ocean – which are, in descending order of area, the Pacific,Atlantic, Indian, Southern (Antarctic), and Arctic Oceans.[3][4] The word sea is often used interchangeably with "ocean" in American English but, strictly speaking, a sea is a body of saline water (generally a division of the World Ocean) that land partly or fully encloses.[5]
Earth is the only planet that is known to have an ocean (or any large amounts of open liquid water). Saline water covers approximately 72% of the planet's surface (~3.6x108 km2) and is customarily divided into several principal oceans and smaller seas, with the ocean covering approximately 71% of the Earth's surface.[6] The ocean contains 97% of the Earth's water, and oceanographers have stated that only 5% of the World Ocean has been explored.[6]The total volume is approximately 1.3 billion cubic kilometres (310 million cu mi)[7] with an average depth of 3,682 metres (12,080 ft).[8]
The ocean principally comprises Earth's hydrosphere and therefore is integral to all known life, forms part of the carbon cycle, and influences climate andweather patterns. It is the habitat of 230,000 known species, although much of the ocean's depths remain unexplored, and over two million marine species are estimated to exist.[9] The origin of Earth's oceans remains unknown; oceans are believed to have formed in the Hadean period and may have been the impetus for the emergence of life.
Extraterrestrial oceans may be composed of water or other elements and compounds. The only confirmed large stable bodies of extraterrestrial surface liquids are the lakes of Titan, although there is evidence for the existence of oceans elsewhere in the Solar System. Early in their geologic histories, Marsand Venus are theorized to have had large water oceans. The Mars ocean hypothesis suggests that nearly a third of the surface of Mars was once covered by gghbjh, kiater, and a runaway greenhouse effect may have boiled away the global ocean of Venus. Compounds such as salts and ammonia dissolved in water lower its freezing point, so that water might exist in large quantities in extraterrestrial environments as brine or convecting ice. Unconfirmed oceans are speculated beneath the surface of many dwarf planets and natural satellites; notably, the ocean of Europa is believed to have over twice the water volume of Earth. The Solar System's gas giant planets are also believed to possess liquid atmospheric layers of yet to be confirmed compositions. Oceans may also exist on exoplanets and exomoons, including surface oceans of liquid water within a circumstellar habitable zone. Ocean planets are a hypothetical type of planet with a surface completely covered with liquid.[10][11]

  • Estuaries - Estuaries are areas where rivers and streams flow into the ocean. This area where freshwater and saltwater meets, creates an ecosystem or bio me all its own with interesting and diverse plant and animal life.

We are connected to the coast and ocean. Whether or not we are among the over 50% of the population who live within 50 miles of the coast, we are all dependent on our coasts and ocean for our food, health, recreation and jobs. In the USA, more than 180 million people visit the shore for recreation every year and tens of thousands of jobs in fishing, recreation, and tourism depend on healthy, functioning coastal ecosystems.
Planet Earth has one big beautiful ocean. This one ocean and humans are inextricably linked. The ocean covers 71% of our planet and its powerful waves and water energy shape the features of the land. The ocean provides us with many forms of recreation: fishing, diving, walnmhnhng, surfing, paddling, beach bonfires, sailing, swimming and beachcombing. And, for millennia, our ocean has served as the natural superhighway for trade, transportation and communication.

The health of the ocean is essential to human survival. The ocean is a major source of food, medicine, and jobs. Fish from the ocean currently are the primary source of protein for one in six people on earth. And, nearly a million people in the US have jobs that directly depend on the ocean and that add $12 billion to our GDP. However, while the ocean supports the greatest diversity of life and ecosystems on our planet, it is largely unexplored.

The ocean is a major influence on weather and climate. In fact it is the ocean that makes our planet habitable. Without the ocean as a heat sink, our days would be unbearably hot, and our nights would be freezing cold. The ocean naturally recycles our water and our air, constammbfghtly cleaning it for us to use over and again 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In fact, 86% of the water we drink comes from the ocean; and the ocean produces more oxygen than the rainforests. It even absorbs 48% of the carbon that we humans put into the atmosphere. The ocean is the best protection we could hope for. We must be good stewards of this part of our living world.

The overarching threat to the ocean is of course climate change. We cannot stop climate change, but we can reduce the amount by which the planet warms. Aside from the threat of climate change, the biggest direct threat to the ocean is overexploitation of its resources. The public has not yet caught up with these realities and 87% view pollution, and oil spills in particular, as the most challenging threats to the ocean.

The ocean touches everyone and everything. It is essential to life and human survival. We all have a strong, personal connection to the ocean (whether we realize it or not). Protecting the ocean protects our health, our economy, and our children’s future.

Together, bb bnwe can make a difference.

What is a ecosystem?

Hi my name is Jeremy Cancel and I will tell you about three animals in the ocean ecosystem

Seahorse are carnivore but seahorses have no teeth or a stomach. Their food moves through their body so fast that they have to eat constsantly just to stay alive.
Seahorses are unique they are monogamous and they mate for life. Seahorses are the only animal species that the male can carry babies.Seahorses are found in tropical and temperate waters all over the world. There relatives of pipefish. Male seahorses are equipped with a pouch on their front facing side. When mating the female puts her eggs into the pouch so the male fertilizes them internally. The male carries the eggs hatch. Then releases the baby seahorses fully formed. Seahorses can easily die of exhagbustion when caught in storm seas. They have a small fin on there back that fluters at 35 miles per hour.

Starfish such an interesting animal that everyone admires. But the starfish isn't really a fish! It is just called that because of where and how it lives. It is related to sea urchins. There are 2000 species of starfish in the world. The tipical starfish you know would be orange but starfish are in all colors and sizes. But these starfish also have a way of camoflouge even though they have all sorts of colors. The best place the starfish hide in is the coral reef because of how much color is in the coral reefs.

Now the octopus as you know octopus have 8 arms but did you know under all those tenticles they have a dangerous beak like mouth. Now you might think of an octopus as a friendly creature but this creature can eat sharks; fish; clams; whales; even birds! Now I have a very special octopus the great pacific octopus is a huge red brownish octopus now this octopus personally I think you should be afraid of.

Ok now I know I said I was only going to say about three animals in the ocean but i 'm going to add another animal as a well call it a gift. Another animals is the king crab! Now you may think it is just a food you eat but its not it is the most famous crab as of now. When I say its famous I mean it is know very well. It is one of the top 5 largest crabs like I said of now so you never know if they are going to be another crab larger. Now king crabs at birth acually arnt that big at birth but as they grow they are known as the king crab.

Hi I am Chris Gil and this is my essay on. the ocean ecosystem

Some seas are connected to the ocean. Evaporation makes salt water fresh water. The ocean is home for many animals. There is the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic ,and the Southern ocean. The Pacific Is the biggest ocean of all. The arctic ocean is the smallest ocean of all. The water of ocean is always on the move. Ocean currents help anything move around the world. Marine scientists conduct research around the globe from the beach. From surface to sea floor. Their goal is to understand the ocean’s diverse environments and habitat and impact on the animals. Deep below the ocean’s surface is a mysterious world that takes up 95% of Earth’s living space.

hi my name is Yammer Mejia

The world ocean is divided into five separate geographical seas. The Atlantic Ocean divided north and South American from Europe and Africa. The Pacific Ocean the largest ocean touches the east in Asia and Western Australia. The ocean near the arctic ocean to the north and the southern ocean near Anacin.

Hi my name is heany poop:
There are around 100 species of fresh-water and sea-water Angelfish. It is an interesting tropical fish due to it’s unique shape and size Angel fish is flat and round like adios and it has triangular fin sea-water angel fish are the most exotic and beautiful tropical fish ,available almost in every ocean. There seven species of angel fish are rock beauty, queen angelfish, blue angelfish, Gray angelfish, angelfish cherub fish, and flam back angel fish.
me is Henson and I am in Ms.Niels class I am working in doing a project about ecosystem about ocean. I been reading book about ocean and watching video about ocean.I could tell you 3 detail about something about ocean. One detail is that whales humpback have some of the longest and most varied song crooning for up to15 minutes at a time. Second detail a jelly actually isn't even a fish;it a drifting animal that can move up and down, but has little control over where it float side way.The third one is that in a called rafting sea otters sometimes gather in group to socialize, to rest and to watch out for each other. then i been reading and it tell me interesting thing about ocean and other thing about ocean and about animals. ocean you should not throw gars because it make a mess in the ocean and it could make a tsunami that it is damage that is a big problem. In the coral reef is so nice that is a beautiful people been studying it. ocean have a lot of kind of fish like hammer shark, octopuses, penguins, ray, sea otters, jellyfish.mink whale.right whale, blue whale, crustaceans, dolphins, sea turtles, puffer fish, sea star, sea cucumber, sea snail, french grunts, cardinal fish, sea anemones, jaw fish, devil fish, gulper eel, bluefish, eel man's whip nose, jellyfish, manatees, marine iguanas, walruses, shark, nurse shark, lemon shark, long noes saw shark, two narrow tooth shark round up prey,whale-shark,seahorse,Adeline,Gentoo,rock hopper, chinstrap, deep sea angler fish, spinner, rissoles, pacification,or ca,spiny scallop, hatchet fish.Me and my friend did a summary about the project we been working on ecosystem project.ocean is the best thing because it help fish and other animal.to save the ocean we should not throw nothing like paper, can, food, and other thing, people like fish man and the boat that take all the fish are killing the fish and the earth and the animal that live in the ocean.my partner and my are looking in the internet, book ,TV show that talk about ocean and animals.this project is important to me because the ocean need us to stop. The ocean has many wonderful living creatures.ocean is the popular because people could swim and do other thing but you should not do is get fish from the water our other thing.my partner and i doing lot of research in ocean and watch video about ocean. I could tell 3 fact about ocean .one fact is that all whales are mammal that must surface regularly to breathe in air through their blowholes. The second fact tiny venomous cell on endlessly flapping and flowing tentacles stun shrimp ,fish and other small sea creature that have the misfortune to swim across a jelly path. The three fact is in the cool coastal waters of the north pacific, off the coast of places such as California and Alaska, sea otter often make their homes in forest of kelp, a type of seaweed [ bottom right].
This is notes that i took when i was watching the video on ocean notes 200 m ,productivity, human-an activities, fishing,Schumann diving.
